Public Talk in Cape Town on ‘Essential Diabetes’ by Dr Joel Dave

‘Essential Diabetes – a team effort to darken its bright future!’ is the title of a public lecture by Dr Joel Dave on 20 August 2014 at 5pm at the *SAAO Auditorium in Cape Town.  Abstract: Diabetes is slowly but surely creeping its way into every society globally.  Although many advances have been made there are key elements in our understanding of the disease that remain elusive.  In this presentation the prevalence and pathogenesis of the various types of diabetes will be reviewed.  In addition,  this presentation will focus on the obstacles to good management of patients with type 2 diabetes as well as the plethora of drugs that are now available for the management of this pandemic.

Dr. Joel Dave MBChB PhD FCP Cert Endocrinology is a Senior Specialist in the Division of Diabetic Medicine and Endocrinology at the University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Hospital. He is also in private practice in Cape Town. He specialises in the diagnosis and management of a wide spectrum of simple and complex endocrine-related disorders, particularly thyroid disease and diabetes.
