The Society is proud to announce the following Medal Award Winners for 2018:

Marloth Medal

in recognition of a Highly Distinguished Career and Significant Contributions
to the Advancement of Science is awarded to
Professor Guy Franklin Midgley FRSSAf*

for outstanding internationally-recognised contributions in the field of fundamental ecology, applied ecology, and ecological policy, as well as significant contributions in the service of science during his tenure as Director of the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) and on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). *Professor of Botany at Stellenbosch University; 

John F. W. Herschel Medal

in recognition of Highly Distinguished Multidisciplinary Contributions to Science is awarded to
Professor Lubertus (Bert) Klumperman FRSSAf*

for his exceptional contributions to science and active role in the national and international scientific community, particularly in the field of kinetic and mechanistic investigations of polymerization reactions and the application of polymer science to nanomedicine.

*Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Polymer Science and South African Research Chair on Advanced Macromolecular Architectures at Stellenbosch University; Editor of Transactions of the Royal Society of South Africa and European Polymer Journal

Meiring Naude Medal

in recognition of Outstanding Early Career Contributions to Science is awarded to
Dr William Horowitz*

for his internationally recognised contribution to the theory of high energy/elementary particle physics, his significant contributions to the development of the UCT Centre for Theoretical & Mathematical Physics as a world-renowned research facility, and his passion for sharing knowledge and expertise with students.
*Senior Lecturer, Department of Physics, University of Cape Town
